It was a warning sign. It is a warning sign. The doctors explained that while allopathy can provide temporary symptomatic relief, the real root cause can only be addressed by Ayurveda and changes in lifestyle. We went to an Ayurveda doctor and she explained how in Ayurveda, the whole body is treated as one. The brain is not separate from the heart; the stomach is not separate from the lung. There are not separate specialities but the focus is on whole body healing. After a basic test and feeling our nerves, she showed us how acidic our bodies are and we need to make our diet more alkaline. This was exactly in sync with what a friend of mine who is also a natural healer says “Eat in sync with the chemistry of our blood and intestine which are mostly alkaline”
Food is our medicine. It has been 4 days since we started on a strict detox regime. We are on a fruit only diet with some restrictions. For example, bananas cause more cough build up; oranges are acidic and some more. Apart from fruits, our diet has a green detox juice, which is a bounty of nature. Every time I go out in the garden to pluck all the leaves for the juice, I am amazed how much healing power the plants have and I bow down in gratitude to the nature.
Green Detox Juice
By Ashima Goyal Siraj
Preparation time: |Making Time: |Serves: 1
15 tulsi leaves (Indian basil)
18 mint leaves
12 curry leaves
4 peepal leaves (also known as sacred fig and bodhi tree)
gel of a 4” piece of aloe vera
1 ½” inch ginger
1 tbsp honey
- Wash and cut everything into chunks.
- Blend together with 300ml water and then strain into a glass
It was only after I started making this juice, I noticed so many peepal trees in my neighbourhood and also explored it’s medicinal values. In traditional medicine, peepal leaves have been used for treating a wide range of ailments from a simple cut to heart problems. No wonder Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment under this one!
